Dad’s Delicious Homemade Southern Biscuits

These homemade biscuits have a different and wonderful texture.  But as tasty as they are, you won’t spend all day in the kitchen making them, just follow the recipe and you’ll be enjoying these biscuits in a surprisingly short time.  Plus, you will love these biscuits so much that you will want to make them as part of a hearty breakfast, a mid-afternoon snack (can you say biscuits and jelly), or the perfect thing to accompany soup or sop up the delicious gravy in a perfect meal.

Dad’s Delicious Homemade Southern Biscuits

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cups organic unbleached white flour (not whole wheat pastry flour, doesn’t work out)
  • 3 tsp. (heaping) baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/3 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 tsp. organic sugar
  • 11 Tbsp. organic butter
  • 2/3 cup organic buttermilk (or half heavy cream, half plain yogurt—I find this to be a superb substitute for buttermilk)

GARNISH:

  • Butter
  • Honey

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  2. Cut the flour, baking powder, sea salt, and sugar with butter into pea-size pieces.

  3. Add the buttermilk and incorporate into the dough.

  4. Dump the dough onto a well-floured board. Gently roll and shape the dough to 1.5 inches thickness and cut it into biscuits.

  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden brown. Brush top with melted butter. Serve warm for best flavor.

  6. Serve with butter and honey— Delicious!

Enjoy!

  1. I love a good biscuit and those look really good. I like to top with a little butter when warm or top them with strawberries and whip cream in the summer..
